New Mascot, Great T-shirts!

College of William and Mary’s Board of Visitors Committee on Athletics met at the beginning of this month to discuss the possibility of a new mascot. The BOV Committee hopes to have an all inclusive search process but to keep to ten or so finalists.
College President Taylor Reveley said, “We want something people like, that’s fun, something we can put on a T-shirt.”

Other Mascot Bloggers…

Elgin Community College now has a few official bloggers on campus and of note the Stories Behind the Fur, SpartaCat, the school’s mascot is one of them.  Unfortunately SpartaCat has yet to really post much.  Guess the cat is no threat to the University of Wisconsin Parkside’s Rangerbear, a Mascot of Mystery.

Ragin’ Red and the Red Storm

Word on the web states that last week, Dixie State College announced a new mascot, a black bull named Ragin’ Red, along with a new nickname, the Red Storm.  Students, faculty and alumni were involved in the adoption process, mostly through online voting.  The new symbol is strong, and the logo, a tornado with horns and ring, was designed by senior Stephanie Adams.  The school looks at the change as a positive move and the new mascot is unique for Utah, edging its way up from rejected front runners, red hawks and red devils.  HELLO RED STORM!

Sounds as if Ryan Cabrera needs SBtF!

Sarah Godfrey reports for the Washington Post that Ryan Cabrera got some boos the other night not for his performing but for comments in not knowing his mascots.  Hmmm, so a little Stories Behind the Fur posts can be of help to all!!!  Impress all on a first date or dinner party!

Apparently,  University of Maryland students in the crowd cheered “Go Terps!” between songs, but turned on the singer when he asked, “what the [expletive] is a Terp?”

Rice’s Sammy the Owl Ejected

Another last week incident that can be added to the bad boys of mascots lists: Rice University’s Sammy the Owl was ejected for head butting the referee.  (there is a pretty good replay about a minute forty into the clip posted!)

Stick to the crowd guys, looks like officials aren’t in the mood to play!
