Vote for Normal Baseball’s Mascot
The Pantagraph reports that the new professional baseball team coming to Normal has 4 names to choose from as the clock ticks on the contest to name the team mascot. Stories Behind the Fur is partial to the Nutz, especially since Corn Nuts are in Bloomington Normal! You have until Sunday midnight to Vote!

Tracy Timm of the Yale Daily News wrote an article listing all the great athletic traditions Yale has including a mascot over 100 years old and stuffed to boot! Anyone know if Yale really has the bragging rights for the “First mascot in college history”?
Blugold Contest
UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association will answer that question with a sponsored design contest, running April 15-June 15. The winner announced by July 15 and receive $500. The Blugold Mascot Design Contest is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and friends of the university. Link to official contest rules
“This contest is part of the process of considering the establishment of a UW-Eau Claire mascot,” said John Bachmeier , director of alumni relations. “The committee is looking forward to seeing the entries and perhaps resolving the issue of what is a Blugold.”
Mascot Safari Hunt…

It’s not college mascots this time, but brand mascots being hunted….
Whiskey maker Whyte and Mackay invited people to search and hunt for the brand’s mascots, 2 red lions, using Google Latititude and Twitter. The Lion’s were in Glasgow and London pubs and bars and planned to move around until caught. People followed at Whyte and Mckay’s Twitter site . Looks like the fun is over for now, but what an interesting way to use social networking and gaming–whiskey never hurts either!
Shooting at Your Own Mascot

The Wenatchee World reported April 2 that three freshman members of the basketball team face misdemeanor charges from shooting bb guns in a city park. What were they shooting at? Ducks. Oregon ducks shooting at ducks in a park. Oh the irony and inhumanity!
Running of The Sausages!
This is one of my favorite parks to go to and this is just one reason why! Thought I’d try for tickets today but my brother just laughed…this opener was probably one of the quickest to sell out!
