Colbert named as new mascot.
Without ballot box stuffing or campaigning, and without a fuss like in Normal at the moment, TV comedian, Stephen Colbert is the namesake of the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse eagle mascot. Out of 10,000 students faculty and staff, around 3100 participated in an online vote to choose Colbert over Baldy, Edgar, Ernie, Screech and Talon. Voting proceeded after the originally chosen name of “Eddie”, created trouble since it is trademarked as the National Rifle Association’s safety mascot.
So it looks as if Colbert will lead LaCrosse on to Victory!!!!
Purdue Pete likes to get kids to Move it!
In West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue University students will debut an exercise video they produced, starring the Purdue Pete mascot. The Video, “A Head Start To Exercise, will be shown to the public this Mother’s Day, May 10 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Theatre, 600 Main St., Lafayette. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature games geared for 3-5-year-olds. Children also will be able to exercise in front of the large movie screen while the seven-minute film repeats. In the video, former Purdue Golduster Dance team member Lindsey Mayer leads Purdue Pete and a group of Head Start students through a variety of exercise routines. The film also is dubbed in Spanish.
There will be prizes and free popcorn at the event, as well as flowers for all of the mothers in attendance.
The film is a Film/Video Studies project in the College of Liberal Arts’ 2009 Community Building program. The program, which this year is focusing on building healthy communities, is offered through the College of Liberal Arts engagement office. The video will be available to the Tippecanoe County Head Start programs. What a great way to get students and fans of all ages up and moving!
Roscoe goes to Washington
This week Angelo State University made a second annual appearance in DC, trying to reach out to several hundred alumni in the area and to Hill staff members and lawmakers. According to gosanangelo.com, “Rumor was there would be a roping contest involving Ram at the event for alumni and congressional staffers, but Matthew Milhauser, the ASU student getting under Ram’s skin for the event Tuesday night, was unenthusiastic.
“I hope not. I wouldn’t want Roscoe’s head to fall off,” said Milhauser, who’s graduating from ASU this month. —Sounds like a contest for the next incoming Roscoe D. Ram
Going for the Guinness Book of World Records
An artist and eight marketing students at Fresno State will be going for establishing the record for largest college-mascot-shaped recycling container. (Very contrived yet specific–much like this blog!) The container will be unveiled at noon Saturday at Beiden Field, where the defending national champion Bulldog baseball team will face Hawaii in a doubleheader, starting at 2:05 p.m. Link to Pix at the Fresno Bee
