Not so endangered?

The red wolf is protected and one of the most endangered animals in the world. What once was a top predator that roamed the southeast, looked to diminished population numbers believed to be around 100 in 1970, in the small area of coastal Texas and Lousiana but in the last two years two colleges have adopted the animal as their mascot, Arkansas State and Indiana University East in Richmond, Ind. So are the fans known as the pack?

The Mighty Oaks

SUNY ESFs Robin Hood Oak

After a surge in athletics at the college, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) has chosen a mascot to represent.  An online poll of over 800 students had a choice of 6 mascots inclucding Rangers, Lumberjacks, Coyotes, Black Bears, and Night Owls and fittingly the unique name of Oak won to represent the large study of forestry at the school as well as a famous oak on campus–the robin hood oak.  Legend has it that a teacher brought back an acorn from Sherwood Forest.

SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) has a long tradition of a woodsman’s team, competing since 1912 in timber sports but now has golf, club soccer, and  cross-country  this fall.

GO OAKS!  We can hardly wait to see the mascot costume and this may take the heat off the Stanford Tree on the worst mascot lists!
