I’ve heard of personalizing your wedding but…
My musician friend has had to learn fight songs for weddings but I never thought of getting one’s alma mater mascot to show up at the reception!
And they’re off…
Last Sunday over 20,000 people came to open house at the track in Saratoga Springs. The event is a free day where families can come and view the grounds and participate in kid friendly activities and racing enthusiasts can take a look behind the scenes.
Of interest to Stories Behind the Fur was the 6th annual Mascot Race where local celebrities Rowdy the River Rat, Spike the Albany Firebird and Skidmore College’s Skids were loaded into the gates and sprinted a few yards…no idea who won but if I were betting I pick Firebird to place!
Roadtrip for the Capital One Bowl
A Visigoth is the Official driver and chaperone of the 2009 Capital One Mascot Challenge. He’s picked up Maryland Terrapin Testudo and South Dakota State’s Jack Rabbit Jack Rabbit and in typical roadtrip fashion, they battle for control of the radio on the Mascot Challenge RV. You can follow all the antics and who makes the “All American” List at the Capital One Bowl website. Map and Twitter feeds included!
Go Polar Bears!
Looks like it’s great new web content for the ABC series Lost. This year looks as if they’ve outdone themselves with extras in creating a Lost University and our favorite part is the mascot…A Fierce Polar Bear! Take that Knut!

Chatham Journal Weekly has posted picks and a brief history of the Wake Forest Demon Deacon. It all began in 1922 when sports editor Mayon Parker of Ahoskie thought of a new and colorful way to describe the devilish spirit of the team! To think that words could create an icon! Stories Behind the Fur can only dream!
Mascots Games in Central Florida
Seventeen years strong, Celebrity Mascot games returns to central Florida with a dozen or so mascots including Orlando Magic’s Stuff, Albert and Alberta Alligator of Florida, Miami’s Sebastian the Ibis and Knighto of UCF.
Games are Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week at Amway Arena with proceeds going to New Hope for Kids organization. Link to Bill Buchalter article with Orlando Sentinel
