RockMNation makes a very good point in a recent posting about mascots:
Pistol Pete, the mascot version, is super creepy. The Cowboy mascot is supposed to be a likeness to Frank Eaton, the real-life cowboy known as Pistol Pete. There’s just one problem. When it comes to mascots you got to go full-on caricature or not go at all. Okie St. ended up with a regular-sized guy, a super gigantic head and way too realistic facial features. It makes for a terrifying combination. There’s a lot of pain behind those enormous eyes.
IT IS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT… BIG HINT TO WILLIAM AND MARY!
The Charleston Daily Mail reported Friday of the childhood friends that became mascots. They have known each other since kindergarden and graduated from Point Pleasant High School where they were voted most active students for the yearbook. So sweet, it reminds one of the story of The Fox and the Hound! Rebecca Durst, West Virginia’s second female mountaineer and Trey Barker, Marshall University’s Marco talk about how they work when the school’s go head to head in a matchup.
Although the Mountaineers won 24-7, the team’s quarterback, Jarrett Brown, was hit on what looks to be a helmet to helmet collision with 2 defenders. As of Sunday, Brown didn’t suit up for practice and it is questionable if he will play against UConn next weekend
MSN has posted mascot updates. Run down includes updates on the William and Mary Mascot(-nothing revealed yet), the link to stories of Ole Miss Colonel Reb getting the boot, and reports of a compromise for North Dakota’s Fighting Sioux.
Ohio.com and Beacon Journal writer Bill Lilley posted what looks to be a 90th birthday celebration today for Richard Hansford who has many accomplishments to his name, but his proudest (and most important to Stories Behind the Fur) is the creation of the mascot Zippy the Kangaroo! (the Kangaroo being 60 years young).
Stories Behind the Fur thinks that a mascot always makes things better! The Burlington Free Press Food Blog looks at the humble onion and mentions my favorite sweet onion, the Vidalia. Little did I know that Vidalia Onion has it’s own link and festival.
I was never a gal to go completely nuts over onion eating but I do know a woman that serves onions (especially Vidalias) sliced on a plate with almost any meal, and has been known to eat ‘em like apples!
So today, be introduced to Yumion the Vidalia onion mascot and enjoy my favorite burger of onion soup mix in the meat and grilled onions on top!
The catbox makes me laugh–Especially since working props for theatre and seeing that someone had to come up with a human sized litter box! Below is craziness to the Nth degree but really shows the spirit of Red Bull.
