Bearcat arrested for Snowballing
Bearcat is the bad boy of mascots this year! Banned for taking down Brutus the Buckeye earlier this year and now arrested for disorderly conduct. Gotta love cell phone cameras and social media! What probably wouldn’t make news, lives on, on the internet. Apparently Rufus Bearcat was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for an incident of throwing snow and resisting stadium dismissal December 4 at the game against Pittsburgh. Seems harmless but is snowballed into urging the crowd to start throwing snowballs and when Pittsburgh’s Dion Lewis scored a touchdown, he was pelted with snowballs.
Ohio Mascots in Competition
Notice how Bearcat is told to have a clean competition….seems to fight fair on the day of this gathering. My favorite out fit though is the Skyline Chilli–I couldn’t figure out the fringe till reading bout where the hotdog came from!
Buckeye Bobcat Brawl
We understand a rivalry and yes Ohio/Ohio State football mash up Saturday should get many in the state fired up, but the Bobcat mascot takes it to a whole other level. Beyond just deciding to take out a fellow mascot and it going beyond good fun, the brawl takes place near the Ohio State team in a pre game prayer. An apology has been issued and according to myfoxphilly.com Ohio’s assistant athletic director for media relations, Jason Corriher, stated in an email that the department does not condone such behavior and regretted the negative effect of the mascot’s actions on the relationship between the two schools.
Though not sportsmanlike, it is a must see video.
Happy Birthday
Ohio.com and Beacon Journal writer Bill Lilley posted what looks to be a 90th birthday celebration today for Richard Hansford who has many accomplishments to his name, but his proudest (and most important to Stories Behind the Fur) is the creation of the mascot Zippy the Kangaroo! (the Kangaroo being 60 years young).
