Buff Bucky Badger?
The Evansville Courier Press posted an article of sports humor called The Cheap Seats and here’s one Stories Behind the Fur REALLY likes!:
Wisconsin mascot Bucky Badger, who does a post-touchdown push-up for every accumulated point on the scoreboard, wound up doing 573 of them during his team’s 83-20 pasting of Indiana. “You know you’re in a blowout,” noted Vancouver (B.C.) comic Torben Rolfsen, “when the opponent’s mascot is in better shape than your team.” Added Reggie Hayes of the Fort Wayne (Ind.) News-Sentinel: “Afterward, he had no regrets and said many mascots live happy, productive lives without rotator cuffs.”
Enter Blaze, a new mascot-perhaps they should rename him Blame
After 117 years, Hood College has debuted a mascot-an equine mascot at that named Blaze. Junior student athlete and Student Athletic Advisory Committee President, Doug Raftery felt that a mascot would be just the ticket to get fans enthusiastic and rally at the school’s sporting events. Based on a 2005 logo-Hood Blazers- the mascot costume was approved, constructed and delivered in August in time for fall athletics.
According to an article in the Frederick News Post, Blaze has 2 outfits-one athletic and one with a blazer, nodding to the college’s tradition. The school feels that “Blaze’s facial expression is fierce, but friendly.”
I say after the upset of many a heart and pocketbook at Zenyatta’s loss to Blame at the Breeder’s Cup recently, perhaps the Hood College Blaze rethink its name and choose Blame!

Central Illinois Cardinal Confusion
![]()
In an attempt to protect its look and logo, Illinois State University has convinced central Illinois’s Pleasant Prairie High School to phase out its cardinal logo. The complaint was that the logo looked too much like ISU’s Reggie Redbird mascot. (you be the judge)
ISU licensing chief Jerry Abner told Bloomington newspaper, The Pantagraph that Pleasant Plains High School can use the logo on its uniforms until those are replaced. But the school says the Sangamon County school district needs to start scrubbing its Web site and printed materials of the logo right away.
Logo Design Love has an article and other comparison pictures of logos…It’s hard to be original and creative with a stockpile of influence coming in!
