Go Uga VIII
So University of Georgia’s interim mascot, Russ is being replaced today with Uga VIII. Before the game, there was a ceremonial passing of the collar.
This dog’s registered name is Big Bad Bruce and the grandson of Uga VI. From the AP, Sonny Seiler was quoted as saying, ”We made the choice based on experience and I’m confident the Bulldog Nation will be pleased when he is introduced Saturday.”
Exciting Times!
Dance on!
WILL Radio TV Online follows up today with a “dance on” stance from the Honor the Chief Society. The Chief dance will happen during homecoming week, ignoring the cease and desist order from the university.
No homecoming for Chief Illinwek
Will Radio Online posted today that the third annual, unofficial gathering and unsanctioned performance of retired mascot Chief Illinwek were “postponed”. This cancellation came after the University threatened legal action. For the past 2 years the club, Honor the Chief, has rented out Assembly Hall and had the Chief perform.
University of Illinois discontinued use of the mascot in 2007 after NCAA sanctions and pressure from Native American groups.
Ohio Mascots in Competition
Notice how Bearcat is told to have a clean competition….seems to fight fair on the day of this gathering. My favorite out fit though is the Skyline Chilli–I couldn’t figure out the fringe till reading bout where the hotdog came from!
