No love for a retired UConn Mascot
Newstimes.com writes a sad and cautionary tale of a mascot’s early retirement and not going to the ‘show’ so to speak in Houston for NCAA finals. After beating out 350 others at try outs, Ryan Toussaint, spent two years as the UConn Mascot and hung up his fur early this year and will be watching the finals from a recliner like many others this week.
No love for a Husky but plenty for Butler’s Blue 2 bulldog.
Sportspage magazine says there’s no love for the UConn Husky. Sounds as if Blue 2, Butler’s Mascot is already in Houston for the Championship and the final four game. Blue 2 was given “a one-time exemption granted by the NCAA which does not permit animals to attend the annual championship tournament.” GUESS IT WAS Blue 2 that helped Butler’s cinderella dreams continue on to Monday night! Should be a great match up with plenty of Blue in the dome!
Any Mascot Ideas?
So the UK has been under fire for design of the London Olympics logo and they traditionally have less experience with mascot team identity than America, but Eliza Doolittle’s odd video with dressed up imaginary characters may spark a few costume or mascot ideas for the future.

Hey Designers- create a New Mascot for San Diego
San Diego has had a long history with mascots, starting in 1886 with a stowaway named Bum the Dog, traveling on a steamer from San Francisco to San Diego. (I’d say a very wise dog to boot!) Bum lived his days as the official town dog and is commemorated with a bronze statue in the Gaslamp Quarter.
San Diego.com goes on to talk of the history of the now World Famous Chicken. The Chicken started out as a stint by a radio station to hand out Easter Eggs at the zoo and later parlayed that to get the ball game to get in free there!
Now, there’s a competition to design the city’s next mascot. Win $5,000 for your idea and a conceptual drawing or computer-generated image. Video submissions are also accepted. Entries may also be mailed to: SanDiego.com 1901 4th Ave 3rd Floor San Diego, CA 92101.
